Kathleen Ann Walsh Barker Hodge
May 25, 1944 - January 18, 2015

At Saint Vincent High, Kathie will be remembered her for her wonderful smile, infectious laugh, and great sense of humor. She was involved in a number of clubs in high school: Sodality, Literature Committee, Red Cross, Hospital Guild, Future Nurses, and she was a Junior Gray Lady. In addition, Kathie worked in the school library. In our senior yearbook the following quote is appropriately placed under her portrait: “Love, sweetness, goodness in her person shines.” Aside from her sweet disposition, Kathie was blessed with a flawless complexion.
Many of us will recall enjoying delicious pizza at her parents’ establishment, Red’s Pizza Pub, after a high school football or basketball game.
Shortly after high school, Kathie became a mom and enjoyed spending time with her children Ben and Tara. She loved to sew and made many of their outfits when they were young. She was an excellent cook and loved being in the kitchen.
Kathie had many interesting jobs while raising her children -- from bus driver to hair stylist. She especially enjoyed styling her classmates’ hair at a Vallejo salon while catching up on the latest gossip.
In 1990, Kathie moved from Napa to Loyalton where she worked for the Department of Forestry. After being diagnosed with lupus in 2005, she retired and moved to Reno to be closer to her children and grandchildren.
Kathie loved the rib cook-off, attending UNR football games, Elvis, puzzles, and going on cruises with her mom. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Kathie is survived by her daughter-in-law Denise Barker; her grandchildren Douglas Barker (Nicole) and Jenica Barker (Josh Jones); her four great-grandchildren Nathan Gerrard, Colten Jones, Penelope Barker, and Camden Jones; her four siblings Carol Wheeler (Robert Ash), Daniel Walsh (Lori), David Walsh (Donna), and Chris Walsh; as well as uncles, many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and cousins.
Kathie was preceded in death by her parents Edwin and Marion Walsh; her sister Linda Walsh; and her children Benton Barker and Tara Barker.
